Door modules

Our interdisciplinary project teams work closely with the customer's own team and with qualified supplier partners to develop electronic and mechanical components for the various functions within a vehicle door.

Structure-supporting door modules

An example for these door modules is the door module for the Audi TT, which is still the only one of its kind on the market.

It satisfies the most stringent requirements in terms of design, comfort, safety and rational assembly. The door module in the Audi TT is the first structure-supporting door module ever used in a passenger car. In addition to the aluminium support, it also contains a window regulator with drive and electronics, the side window, the quarter light, and the window bar with seal, together with various adjusting components. It is measured and adjusted according to KÜSTER's own 20-point reference point system, so that this frameless door only requires minimum adjustment during final assembly. We were awarded the Audi prize for quality for our achievements, the first time such an award has been given to the door module segment.

Chassis door modules

Our remaining door modules contain a support plate made of aluminium, steel or plastic together with the window regulator, the lock, speakers, the wiring harness, the interior door latch cable link with handle, and the window regulator drive motor with door control unit as well as, when required, side airbag and crashpads etc.
The door control unit, in turn, is responsible for the window regulator and all its functions, such as the anti-trap system. It also controls the lock or central locking and mirror adjustment, as well as illumination of the door zone and the LED which indicates whether the door is open or closed.

Furthermore, the door module itself also separates the wet zone from the dry zone in the door and helps to increase the rigidity of the door. It also facilitates user-friendly assembly and servicing for all the players involved, both in production at KÜSTER, on the car manufacturer's production line, and when the car is taken to the garage for servicing.

Notwithstanding these achievements, we are working on further increasing the possibilities of integration for future module generations, especially by using plastics.
